I’ve read that brine shrimp is more like a snack for fishes. I’m using Hikari frozen brine. Anyone know if they’re actually nutritious and good for feeding?

I believe there is more nutritious foods out there like mysis but brine shrimp are decent food. The best thing to do is feed a whole bunch of different foods as you have available.
and some much smarter reefer will chime in soon.

I would say Mysis is better then brine. I was feeding mysis and switched over the brine. When i started feeding brine, my clownfish started getting fat lol. But my fish and cleaner shrimp like brine more so im sticking with brine most of the time

Mysis is typically better. But I think it may also depend on if the brine shrimp are gut loaded or not. Ideally, you shouldn't feed regular plain adult brine shrimp, but instead should feed brine shrimp that is enriched in some matter (Spirulina is a typical option).

I bought a brine shrimp hatchery, PaulB, in his book says newly hatched have oil in the egg sack! I’ll post how well it works!

I like to mix a variety of foods when feeding. I typically do Hikari spirulina brine with Hikari pellets and LRS frenzy. Everyone seems to be happy with that in my tank.

The thing is my copperband only eats brine lol will not touch mysis

Hi in water, low in nutrition however spirulina brine is more fortified and you can soak with vitamins to boost it

Mine eats everything under the sun. try adding garlic to other foods.

I use San Francisco Bay's Marine Cuisine which has a mix of stuff in it* but I also have some frozen brine and when I feed just that, my fish are like a bunch of pot heads at a free Dorito store.. they go crazy for it. I but I try to limit giving it a couple times a week.

* Brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, krill, plankton, menhaden fish oil, brewer’s dried yeast, vitamins [choline chloride, magnesium sulfate, iron, inositol, α-tocopherol acetate (source of vitamin E), zinc sulfate, manganese sulfate, calcium carbonate, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of stabilized vitamin C), biotin, calcium pantothenate, niacin, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (source of vitamin B6), riboflavin (source of vitamin B2), potassium iodide, vitamin A supplement, citric acid (preservative), folic acid, thiamine mononitrate (source of vitamin B1), menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of vitamin K3 activity), cobalt carbonate, vitamin B12 supplement], sodium alginate, spirulina.

Seem to recall checking the nutrition list on the back of the pack and concluding that brine wasn’t materially less than mysis .... was the spiralina brine though. I was able to fatten up an Achilles tang on only spiralina brine. Was the only thing it would eat for almost six months.
