Bringing back to life my RKE

Hi all,

I have been dry for a few years and I am almost ready to get my new system up and running. I have an RKE V2, 3 PC4's, SL1, SL2 and a NET module. I appear to be behind on some updates of course. Should I be concerned to just go in and update everything? Not sure what has changed from 2.06 to 3.08 on the RKE...

If you need to upgrade your firmware, make sure that you have a v2 SID to do it. Also, if it is working fine, I wouldn't mess with it. I do not have a list of the differences between the two firmware versions that you have listed, and I do not know what version my currently operating RKE is running, but it is running my tank without problem. I also have a lot of my tank on an Archon. If you upgrade to an Archon, all of your listed components, with the exception of your NET module, will work with the Archon. In that case, a firmware update on the individual components would be required. The NET module would be redundant with the Archon because the Archon already does what the NET does and more.

The only issue is pH and ORP probes cannot be left dry. They have to be stored in a storage solution. If they were not then you will need to replace them. If you get any of the newer modules they may not be supported in the older firmware version, but you can always update at that time.

I went ahead and updated the RKE, SID, and the SL2. I did a factory reset but it still remembers my old channel names. Seems odd. I have an old phone probe that is still in a solution but it has been 5 years or more. I will replace them and hope everything works as it did. I don't have water in the system yet so I have a little time.

You will have to use myReef with the system up and running to change the channel names. If it is still in solution it should be good to go.

I got the net module running on my PC so that is good. Does the mobile reef app for Android work any more? I installed the 2.0 version on my S7 and it says it is downloading system data but nothing shows up on my screen. I am pretty sure this was made for an older version of Android but figured it would still function. It worked decent the last time I had the RKE up and running.

Did you set it up? It has to have access to your NET module from the internet. This requires setting up a static IP for the NET and port fordwarding on you router. You will also have to setup the App so it knows how to get to your specific NET module.

Yeah - I have security cameras that I can view remotely via a static IP. I fixed the IP address on the Net module and changed the port. I then set up port forwarding on my router for that IP and port. I pointed the app to my static IP with my port address. I can view the webserver through the browser on my phone with the same address. I will type it all in again to make sure I did not screw something up. The app is a little weird as I cannot change the server address without clearing the app defaults. I cannot get into settings in the app itself.

Unfortunately I don't think Oscar is supporting the App anymore. You should still be able to use a web browser to get to the NET module on your phone.

User error! I was reading and saw someone mention the RSS enable. After I added 2 of the slots from the PC4, I can see them... Like I said, I forgot how to set this stuff up
