Bringing home a melanarus tomorrow question

So tomorrow I'm getting a melanarus. I have a ten gallon QT, ready for him. Should I take sand from my DT and put it into a Tupperware, than that into the QT?

You can put the sand into a tupperware or similar, so that a relatively small amount of sand is still deep enough for the wrasse to nap in.

Keep in mind that if you use copper in the QT, that sand must never be returned to your reef!

My $0.02 ... but there are a lot of folks better at this game than I am!

If it came from an LFS I would be very very very very slow and let him sit and eat and adjust for 30 days before increasing copper over ten days or more. If established from another hobbyist you can probably begin treating in a few days bjt increase over at least a week.

I've never quarantined a fish before, I didn't plan on running copper. Do I need to?

I always run every fish through. Some people prefer ich management but it depends on what you keep and how much you want to risk. Just my .02.

How big is the fish? He will"want" at least a couple of inches of sand to feel safe.

Oh really? That container is only about 4x4, don't think that will be enough space for him to burrow?

I'll change containers before I leave for my NSLFS (Not so local fish store). Also I would ideally like to just observe the fish rather than treat for unseen diseases while in my QT. However while I'm at the fish store I think it would be wise to pick up those items that I would need if I were to treat. What do I need to have?

In my opinion, yes. These parasites can be present without visual signs.

I read that wrasse do not respond well to copper treatment. So what's the suggested treatment method for these guys?

I've heard that as well but I don't have the answers. @Humblefish or @melypr1985 almost assuredly will.

I treated a coris and tusk with cupramine,Just bring copper up to proper level slow. Use the right test kit for copper being used.

When I treated I had no sand just pvc elbows and couplings. I think it's more important to have a well seeded filter on your QT and plenty of salt and saltwater on hand, for ammonia spikes. I believe more people lose fish to a buildup of ammonia than the copper they use.

I have sand because the melanarus likes to bury itself.
