A melanurus wrasse will tear the small ones up and do a good job managing the population.

Agreed. I have a melanaurus wrasse, and I occasionally find a small bristleworm in my filter socks, but I've never seen one in the display. Great part of the CUC though.

A lot of the time they only come out when the lights go out. ScottB is right, they do multiply fast and that could be a sign of over feeding.

I absolutely fall into the “over-feeding” crowd. I guess I will leave them in there and try to monitor/limit my feeding

I know people say theyre good. (When they're small) but I've seen them get really big. In one of my old tanks I saw one go after a sleeping wrasse. After that I set traps and got as any as I could out. Small ones become big ones eventually. I'd say if they're under 3inches leave em, if they start getting fat and long remove them... they make great bait for flunking btw lol

Yup I must have Hundreds of Bristle Worms in my 200Gal 12 Year old system, they seem to be harmless
Good points they will eat any detritus incl the odd (rare) death, bad points, when I try to feed my Mantis or the Conchs (different Aquarium) they are the first to the Table, they appear like Spooks at the very hint of something to eat.
Main Aquarium 12 Years, 120 Gallon, appx 150 Lbs Rock, Refug No 1 20 Gallon Feather Algie, No 2 20 Gall, Hair Algie, Sump, and reserve sump 40 Gallons, Header Tank built to fit Window I.e. loads of Green Algie and Some Tux Urchins 12 Years old, Pic shows Pair Clowns with Eggs.
