So I am wondering if I have fire worms or just common bristle worms. They are visibly red and the biggest that I have seen is 1/4" in length when stretched out. I don't really know how to tell the 2 apart. Please help me ID these and then tell me how to tell the difference. Thanks

Just like you we can only guess without pictures.
Post pictures and I'm sure the i.d. will follow very swiftly :)

Every picture I take says they are to big when I try to upload them. No different than any other picture I have posted on here. Odd. I'm working on getting picture on here.

As best I can tell from the blurry picture it does seem to be a regular bristle.
How do you tell between the two? What ate some of the tells for fireworm?

Fireworms usually have red around the bristles, you've got a regular ole bristleworm there. Fear not, they are excellent CUC members. Pencil-sized ones emerge from my rock at feeding time.

The red at the base of the bristles is not a reliable way to identify a bearded fireworm. The way to definitively tell is to look for a very distinctive caruncle on its head. The caruncle is so distinctive that it was used in the scientific name of the worm (Hermodice carunculata)
