I know a lot of people seem to think of them as pests. But I got 6-8 in my tank and they seem to clean my tank just as much as the snails as far as the algae. I checked a few stores and no one seems to sell or breed different varieties like they do snails. Why?

I have a a few small 1-2" ones in my tank and just leave them be. But I think they are in some people's opinion like snakes, creepy crawly and just down right ugly.

They are some of the best scavengers.
They get the bad name from years of tank owners looking down on them.
When I open my new retail store I will actually have them for sale if I can get a hold of them.

They don't generally attack healthy fish or corals. The population is kept in check via keepin low nutrients in the tank. I've got a bunch in mine, but they aren't big.

I just started my tank back up after a total loss. I cleaned my rock and sand. Cycle is almost done. I probably have 7 to 8 worms from the live rock I've added. I'll be running high nutrients due to fish selection and LPS. How many is too many in a 40g nuvo?

I haven't seen any in my tank thus far, but i know they are there since they were in my smaller tank and when I upgraded I used all the rock and sand from the smaller tank too. They are in there for sure. I agree there is nothing bad about them being in the tank (great cleanup) and I wont bother them if I see one. I also agree that they are gross, ugly, creepy crawlies that I dont wanna touch AT ALL. Which is just another reason i wont bother them.
to find them, best bet is to wait til the lights are off for a bit, then use a dim flashlight, find a corner where there is possible left over food, you should be able to see them. Even the cleanest of tanks, I've seen them in.

I think that an over abundance looks unattractive, but the population of bristleworms is like that of any other scavenger. They will wax and wane dependent of the food sources that are available. I will say there are no such thing as too many because all they do is eat detritus and uneaten food.

I used to have a lot of them, they occupied the sand bed and all the way to the top of the rocks (in the holes ofc) I used to hate them and pick them out with tweezers when I do my waterchange if I see one out and about. But they have slowly disappeared on me and I have no idea why, now my rocks are full of detritus and have gha growing in places my tang and blenny cannot reach. I miss my ugly bristleworms.
