Hello all. I would appreciate an opinion on the bump I noticed on the side of my new tang. I am new to the hobby and I am really hoping it isn't what I'm thinking it could be with the minimal knowledge I have.

I brought it home last Sunday so just over a week. It is in quarantine with a little foxface. I am not using any medication. I have been the ttm. Usually changing the water and set up every 48 hours but definitely less than 72.

I'm hoping it isn't anything to worry about. Thanks.

May just be a bump - catching fish and moving them for TTM multiplies the risk for that to happen.

Looks like a spot from post injury and can be from netting at LFS or a nick from piping in quarantine. This is one that should heal on its own. Any other occupants in tank with it (as a bite mark also possible) ?
Is tank currently being medicated?

There is a foxface. They are actually hanging out with each other with no signs of aggression at all. No medication. I do have copper power and prazipro but honestly, being new to this I am scared to use it. Lol. Unless I really have to.
There were a couple scales out of place when I got it but after a couple days it wasn't noticeable. I've been using buckets for quarantine because its easier to sterilize. When I was doing this transfer I noticed the bump so I grabbed the 10g aquarium so I can get a good look and pictures.

It's me again. I was just doing a tank transfer and had an opportunity to get a picture so I thought I'd post to see if you guys think. I don't see any real difference so hopefully you guys still stick with your original thoughts. Both fish are a lot less skittish and even though I knew the food was being eaten, I was able to sit there and watch both of them eat for about 10 minutes. Thanks very much for your time and info. The second pic is in the rinse container.

Tough to see much from a fish out of water. A video of the fish in the tank might tell us more.

Please avoid taking fish out of water at all, what says for pics. It can stress fish and remove protective slime coat.
Again, are you medicating tank with anything?

As I said in my previous post I was doing a tank transfer. I didn't realize the extra 10 seconds would be a big deal to get the picture since I had a concern.
I also did say in a previous post that I am not using medication.

Sorry I didn't get back right away. I just got home. He wasn't cooperating but I still got a couple vids. I don't know if I am tripping out but it almost looks like there is a blister with something moving. Let me know what you think.

Are you seeing something actually moving on the fish? Does the blister move its location day to day? There are some rare copepods, like Argulus, that live on a fish's skin and move around, feeding there. TTM won't do anything for that.

It looks like there is a blister on the bump and I think the "blister" has moved. Thinking about it now, could it be a worm and not actually a blister? I did start prazipro last night.

There are not any worm parasites that do that, it is too large. There is a crustacean copepod called Argulus that causes this sort of lesion in freshwater fish. there is a similar, but rare copepod that can cause this in marine fish, especially ones fresh from the ocean.

You could try a 5 minute freshwater dip, but I've been told that these may not cause the parasite to dislodge (I use formalin dips, but those are tricky and formalin is hard to get).

I'll be getting home from work soon so I will take a look but I spoke to my wife earlier and she said the whitish looking blister may be gone. The fish seem to keep hiding the side with the bump. I'm hoping the prazipro did something.

I will see how the prazipro goes. I have 1 more tank transfer to go and I may do the freshwater dip at that time. As for formalin, I live in Canada so the standard stuff can be difficult to find. Especially where I live. At least Detroit area is an option for me. The closest store to me that sells saltwater fish is actually in another country. Lol

I will try to get a good updated picture when I get home later. Thanks for the help so far. I really appreciate it.

Well the last tank transfer is done. Ii did the 30 min Methylene Blue dip. That stuff os Blue. It reminded me of dying Easter eggs. The fish didn't seem to mind it at all but they did do a lot of poopin. I gathered back into the qt and the bump looks like it is almost gone. You can see the discoloration but it is almost flat. Here are a few pick. These two fish are always side by side like a couple of buddies. I hope it stays that way.

I originally thought it was some kind of a blister but I think if it was a blister, it would look much worse right now. I really think it was a flat worm of some type unless flukes get that big. I have no idea because I don't really know what i am talking about. Lol. It was definitely pulsing in a wave motion and I could see faint lines on it. They weren't the lines of the fish because they were perpendicular to the pattern on the fish. I tried to see if it was on the bottom of the tank but all I can see is poop and some food particles.
As long as it keeps going like it is, I will do another prazipro on Thursday and possibly a final Methylene Blue dip on Saturday. Then acclimation box in the dt.
