Brittle Star

My CUC came in today and they are all in the tank. My brittle star however didn't look so good when I got him. He only had 2 1/2 legs that looked healthy, one that was twisted up and looked to be barely hanging on. One of the good legs has now been severed in two. Is this normal? Will the legs grow back? Do I need to remove the severed part to keep from decay or will the hermits/snails eat it? Is there a chance the star is already dead? I can take a picture if necessary.

He should be ok. He can grow the legs back that were damaged. See if hell take some food from you.
