So everywhere I seen says brittle stars are okay and good for your tank, well as of now I think differently. When you have to many it is bad. Thought my other half was wrong when he said there burning the corals but today for the first time I seen it. 5 brittle stars were on my montipora and it looked like it was smoking. Seen this before but didn't know what was causing it

were they out in plain View ON the coral? did you see damage to the coral.
Its likely they are spawning!

x2 on spawning… After a few water changes I noticed 100's of them out and spawning.. My tank was a giant cloudy mess for a few hours.

Some were out and some not. My tank isn't cloudy just looks like smoke coming off the corals where they are at. And the ones there is alot on the corals are dying

Pics would help. The stars are likely spawning this would not cause the decline in your coral but if there is something going on in your water the two could be related.

See We don't like that way to many irritates the corals so they don't open.
