Hey everyone, finally got most equipment to get my 40 breeder set up. Unfortunately i broke it while drilling:(...must of been pushing to hard. So after the barrage of feelings I'm back to getting a tank. I currently have a reef radiance dm-165p+ which should of fit perfectly over the tank. The local lfs store suggested a 65 breeder. Same demensions just deeper. Before pulling the trigger on this tank, i wanted to get everyones input on whether it would be enough light after adding 25 gallons to it!?

Cheers

Yup supposed to let the drill do all the work no pushing

Yes they do! I have four and seem to pick one almost every time they have one and the sale. They usually sell out because of the nice footprint.

Make sure you let the drill do the work next time!

Hey guys,

Yep, was drilling the back of the tank. Had a hose oozing the entire time and I wasn't pushing at all. Anywhoo, since thats in the past (using tank for a orchidarium!) the original post was to see if the light I bought could handle the upgrade in tank size. Going from a 40 breeder to a 65 breeder has the same basic foot print just 9 in taller.

I just got a response back from Rick(Reef Radiance guy) and he says no. I would need another light for adequate growth. I just cant drop another 350 on a light:(

So thats 1 saying yes and 1 saying no

I was thinking that some of the sps could go higher in the reef and the lower light requirements could be mid to low in the tank. Any input on this would be great!

Current light
DM-165+
55 LEDS
3watts
90 lens

While the guy from reef radiance is right in that the light reaching the bottom of the tank would not be quit enough for Sps, your Idea : " the Sps could go higher in the reef and the lower light requirements could be mid to low in the tank. This is what I have done. Top pic at Mid level and next pic is at level higher up for the SPS.

40Bs are so thin I don't think I would drill them. I know people do, and I know people are successful, but just looking at the deflection you get on them (the top rim) when full at 1/4" of bend they really scare me. This is one of the reasons I stopped using them as my DT and now only use them as a sump. The addition of the baffles really strengthens them.

Are 65s the same glass as the 40s?

Well, since I really couldn't get pass how the 65 looked, I went ahead and bought a pre drilled(with over flow) one instead of saving money. I plan buying another prostar from Reef Radiance and having two lights. Now I have a overflow kit I'll need to sale. No big deal! Thanks for all the help everyone

cheers
