As I was doing a water change today, I went to replace the stock Red Sea ato. It slipped and cracked a piece of the back glass.

Oh no! Does the sump have to be replaced?

I don’t think so. Yet. It just now has a bit of over flow into chamber 3

Can you get a full sump pic? This may be an easy fix with some silicone/glue and a small piece of glass or acrylic to create a block off plate for the broken piece.

Sorry. I already put the ato back in and filled it, but this is the best I could do on short notice

If it was me, as the glass pane is craked beyond the break point, I would take the sump out and replace tha piece of glass. For the time being, you can use a rubbermaid tub or some other tote that fits in the sump area as a sump. It does not have to be divided like that to support life.

Looking at it, removing that piece of glass appears to be pretty easy. Just use a razor blade to cut the silicone and remove the panel. If you can get it out in one piece (of what is left), you can carry to a local glass shop and they can cut you a piece for cheap. Just have them sand the edges, so it is not sharp. From there, take the piece home, lay sump on side to where that pane is sitting on top of the other panes edges, apply silicone, press pane on until silicone just starts to squeeze out, smooth out silicone on inside area and let sit for a week. This should do it, as there is not a ton of pressure on that pane and it is a sump, so does not need to look like a display tank.

If you wanted to chance it, you can get a few tubes of superglue gel, and a scrap piece of acrylic or glass. Just glue that on the inside of the section where the piece broke and then apply the super glue around the edges. Being as there is almost no pressure where it broke, it should at least keep water where it should be.

I was thinking the same but just draining it til dry and using a scrap glass with silicone just for structure and to hold that water where it is supposed to be.
Best would be to replace the whole panel as steve said
