Some how water got into my Hanna Salinity checker. It turns on but doesn’t display a reading. I think it’s over a year old. I did put in a new battery to see if that was it but it wasn’t.

bump

I had the same problem with an underwater camera. It never worked again.

Im a new reefer so I admit Im not an expert at all but I went from my optical refractometer to the Hanna digital refractometer (https://www.hannainst.com/hi96822-digital-refractometer-for-seawater-analysis.html) for $180. I consider the following to be essential to the reef aquarium (In order of importance): Temperature, salinity, alk, nitrate, phos and I measure them regularly.

I find the digital refractometer very easy to keep clean and very easy to use. It is very fast compared to a optical refractometer. That being said, I do still have my BRS Optical refractometer that I keep calibrated because I don't like to get rid of things. Whenever I check the optical refractometer it is SPOT ON compared to my digital meter.

I was able to fix it. I had some damp rid so decided to put some in a container and put the Hanna checker in. This morning I put the battery in and it now shows the numbers clearly.

So if anyone has water that gets into there Hanna or any other devices try using damp rid.
