Hi, there I discovered that my Skimmer cable is broken. Is this risky for the Fish?
And how do I repair that?

Thank you for your Help :-)

I would personally not put that back in my tank.
Time to look for a replacement pump.

I'll go to a local electrician tomorrow, maybe he can fix it.... New skimmers cost around 300 and id rather not spend that money as I am planning on getting a bigger tank :-)

My boss charges $95 an hour for me to show up. Lol
You should be able to buy a replacement pump Nyos.

You could cut and resolder or splice together. Use heat shrink to seal it up
thats what im going to ask the electrician to do^^

You could do that, I would most definitely not recommend it though, will need to use resin heat shrink and even then there is no guarantee that the cable will be sealed.

The sleeve is damaged under the water line, I would not recommend amateur repairs.

No risk to fish, usually a tank is above earth potential, but a risk to you as you put your hand in the tank or sump and complete the path to earth.

yeah but if i let an electrician do it, it should be fine. or not?

Bring it to a shop, I am an electrician but I would not fix it, I doubt most shops will either. My experience with submersible pumps is that sealing them is a pain in the rear. You could fix it with the appropriate shrink kit, but they are bulky.

No. Explain to the electrician that the repair will be going underwater, in saltwater, in a tank that you regularly put your hands into. See if they still want the job.

That said, look up the pump. You might be able to replace just that.

The replacement pump is 180$...

I think ill buy a new skimmer, would you recommend
skimz monzter sn127
Or red sea 300
?

I’d look for a skimmer I thought was worth the money not what my LFS has in stock. You tank will be fine for a few days if you need to order a skimmer.

The delivery in switzerland is quite slow... some packages take multiple weeks....
thats why im looking at my lfs, and they really only have two ( to my liitle knowledge) good skimmers.
The redsea 300 for 360
and the skimz sn127 for 260
i saw the main difference is ac and dc but im not sure whats better. and wether i want those redsea features for easier cleaning..

its worth noting that i might change my livestock from fish to seahorses in the future
