Brook or velvet? Tank being wiped out

Hi all,

I am a long-time lurker, I have recently set up my dream reef with a reefer S850 and some nice fishes and corals.

Unfortunately, this dream is turning sour, for a few days I am experiencing heavy losses, and at this point, I am still not able to identify the disease. At first, I thought it was velvet, but now I am not so sure and I wonder if I am not using the wrong treatment.

Could you guys help?

Need pics under white lighting and especially fish in water- Its near impossible to see a thing on fish out of water

Besides the pictures - more history is needed - did you QT the fish? Did you add anything recently? Parameters ok? Were there any symptoms? Anything else? PS - it's difficult for many people to view movies (I cannot) - unless they are loaded to YouTube. Sorry for your losses

Yes, you are right.
I don't have a QT, right now I am trying this oxygen peroxide protocol from Humble Fish, I am still seeing losses but I have the feeling they slow down a bit (the tank also starts to look empty).

The parameters of the tank are very good: here

Symptoms include a bit of flashing, first deaths were a couple of gramma and a Tomi.
I lost my fridge a couple of weeks ago after a heat wave, I see those 2 events as a potential trigger of fish stress: a very big diet change and also a temperature spike (from 25 Celsius to 29).

I will try to post pictures with normal light once I am back home.

Thanks - several of your metals, nickel, copper, etc are quite high (compared to the recommended values). Is your ammonia high. PS - I am not sure these are significant or causing your problems. What are you ammonia, etc

Yes my auto feeder fall in the water, I think the contamination comes from here, I have ordered an absorber.
For ammonia, I don't have a test, but the live rocks are 2 years old, so except for very big incidents I would not expect any ammonia spike (I am also dosing tunze bacteria)

The copper and other metals are not causing the fish to die - I see some soft corals in one of the videos. those invertebrates always die due to metals in the water before fish do. Ammonia could still be an issue, but I think you have some fish disease going on....either velvet or maybe Brooklynella from what I can see.

There are so many spots on your glass its impossible to tell what's on the fish?

if an autofeeder fell in the water - how much of the 'feed' leaked out? I.e - would produce an ammonia issue. I would suggest you get the simple test for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Please don't take this in the wrong way - but - the numbers of dots on your glass is more than the ones on your fish.. To make any sense IMHO - you need to scrape your glass and get good pictures thereafter

Tough to see for sure, but some of those spots aren't on the glass, they are on the fish. That points to an uncontrolled infection of marine ich, Cryptocaryon. This is going to be tough to treat - the fish need to be treated ASAP for ich, but those treatments cannot be done in the same tank as corals or other invertebrates.

Do you have the option of moving the fish to another tank and treating them with copper of hyposalinity?

thanks, what got me confused is that the first deaths were showing no sign of white spot. which was confusing to me. It may be too soon to say, but I managed to stabilize a bit the situation with a 24/7 UV and 120ml of oxygen peroxide per day. fish already look a bit better and swim better than just 3 days ago.

fingers crossed, I already lost half of the population.
