Heres the third fish, now showing white spots on the tail and fins. No slime yet
Craztclownlady - really appreciate and admire your care, persistence and support for your critters even with the challenges that assuredly well meaning restrictions on product availability has brought on you - best of luck

I'm on day 3 of the ruby reef dips and tank dosing. I don't mind doing additional dips if folks think it will be of help
I would go for five days with that and then stop to see how the disease progression goes....

I have some ruby reef rally coming today. Is that worth a shot?

Still another week for the other meds.. i bought everything i could so i have it onhand to properly quarantine next time. Also setting up a QT tank for next time.. if i ever try fish again :(

big mistakes were made.. this was my first attempt at saltwater fish after running a coral/invertebrate tank for a year
Hello, first post on the site for me. I’ve got a 125 mixed reef I’ve been running for a couple years. Recently I had some of the same concerns with my clowns after a heater failure. I used ruby reef kick ich and rally in combo (hippo tang was looking a little spotty). Long story short, I lost my anthias and the tang and my hardy fish and clowns survived… so meh on medical potency.

Big thing I wanted to mention here is that the full tank treatment regimen absolutely hurt my corals. Most survived but some just barely. It’s for sure not reef safe as advertised.

Just throwing it out there! Best of luck!

Thank you for this information. Did you dose for 3 days according to the instructions? At what point did your corals start to deteriorate?

i read an experiment someone did with xenia and many reef safe products. Apparently the ruby reef rally killed the xenia. Others haven’t had that issue. My xenia and other corals are okay so far.

Heres the update on fish #1 and #2:
- tails look the same as yesterday
- swimming around alot
- eating normally
- i think there are white spots on the white fish :(

Heres the update on fish #3:
- lots of bright white spots, ich?
- tail remains intact
- maybe a different disease than the other 2 fish?

While that could be ich, the spots are pretty large. They could be mucus plugs or xenomas. Can you post a short video of this fish?

so two hours later and the big white spots are not as big and looks more like the white powder now. Am i going crazy??

heres a video.. the quality on my phone looks great but on youtube it looks bad. I might have to research how to upload a better version. I also took 2 more photos which clearly shows a difference compared to a couple hours ago.

I can’t rule out ich from this video, but I don’t see any behavior changes. I would just watch it for another 24 hours

Thanks. I will continue to monitor and dip with the rally for 2 more days as you suggested (5 days total). The kordon rid ich plus is out for delivery, so at least I’ll have that onhand. It contains formalin but i don’t know what %.

The Kordon Rid Ich plus arrived. It is 11.52% formalin, incase anyone is wondering.

Just be careful - while you might be inclined to use that product in place of regular formalin (by multiplying the dose by 8.6 times to get full strength formalin) the malachite green in Rid Ich is going to be your limiting factor - 8.6 times the dose of that is probably going to be toxic.

Good point!

I’m going to proceed with the 5th ruby reef rally dip tomorrow and then monitor them before treating with anything else. They seem more active and eating well, so I think it makes sense to stay on the current path.

i checked my calcium today and both tanks have high calcium (498 and 511). I have not dosed anything except the ruby reef rally. The calcium was at about 450 in both tanks before any Rally was dosed.

should i do a water change or does the ruby reef rally need to remain in the tank at full strength for a period of time. My corals look okay.

Weird, not sure where the calcium would be coming from. I’ll have to defer to others about the water change schedule, I’ve never dosed rally in a reef tank myself….

I'm still amazed that the tail infections stopped and didn't progress.

Clowns are strong little fish and I wish the best for you with them. When my clowns first showed the powdery dust look on their bodies it was like maybe 3 weeks before rapid serious symptoms starting showing up in them and other fish in the tanks. Then within 48 hours I lost 5. I hope yours can fully recover.

The fish just finished their 5th and final Rally bath. I gave them some raw table shrimp and they went nuts for it.

I’ve become a pro at catching my clowns. In complete darkness, I shine a UV flashlight in the top corner of the tank. They swim up to it and i gently scoop them into the net.

now the hard part.. waiting.. and monitoring.

Morning update…

All three fish are still alive. All 3 are swimming around and eating.

couple concerns:
- White fish has cloudy eyes. The tail still has a speck of orange colour so I think it is the same size as yesterday.
- the skunk cleaner shrimp is periodically chasing the two fish. I noticed this when i started monitoring via webcam. Is this stressful for them?

my QT/hospital tank arrived yesterday but I don’t really know how to set it up properly
- do i use new/fresh water or water from DT?
- do i seed it with media from DT or cycle with ammonia?
… my concern is that the DT may be infected?
