Brook?

I have a pair of clowns that were the first additions. All others have been qt’d since, 3 royal grammas, white tail kole tang and YWG. Just noticed while watching the male swimming around, but it was really hard to tell until I took a picture. I’m leaning towards brook, but not sure. What do you all think?

I could be overreacting. The fish otherwise seem healthy in terms of activity. They don’t seem lethargic in any way, and are both eating quite well. No other fish has any signs of infection of any sort.

That dusty looking mucus coating is indicative of brook in clowns. QT all fish with formulin and fallow the tank for minimum 45 days to 76 days.

+1 on it looking like brook. You can treat this with paraguard outside the display or try something like rally pro in the display as a last resort (since it may not work).

Well, they really aren’t acting mopey like clowns with Brook usually do. How long have you seen the skin issue, maybe the Brook is just starting up?

Could well be that then. Your options are pretty limited, what @Spare time said is about the best you are going to be able to do unless you can find 100% formalin.

Thanks everyone! The only thing I could get my hands on quick is Ruby reef rally pro which is coming today. I’ll have to set up a QT for everyone. So far the clowns are still quite active and eating. No real changes in activity since yesterday. I have put them into an acclimation box for now. I thought brook would have advanced much more by now…

Well I’ve got the kole tang in the QT as well and it’s starting to look like Ich. Thoughts? #fishmedic

Those fish all have marine ich. The trouble is, they shouldn't be acting that sick from what is now just a moderate case. To me, that implies you may have multiple issues. Still;, the ich is the most visible, so treat for that. Your best bet would be Coppersafe at 2.5 ppm. The next best option would be a hyposalinity treatment.

Thanks Jay, would I be okay to use some established bio media from the DT if it’s ich? I wonder if there was also brook going on. The grammas are doing the worst of them all. I also have a really tiny YW goby I’m a little concerned with using copper on. I guess I’ll try ramping up the level of copper slower than the normal 24 hours. He was bought pre quarantined, so I never had to used copper with him.

Looks like ich/crypto rather than brrook although heavy slime coat is present

Yes - you can use non calcium based media from the ich tank since the fish are going to be treated. That is a better option than dealing with ammonia issues.

Thanks Jay! So I just noticed some small dark spots on the kole tang. I dosed a little metroplex in case it was some type of bacterial infection. I wonder if it might be bruises from when I was trying to catch him.

Yes, those are probably bruises from catching the fish or a secondary reaction to the ich. Metroplex isn't a good antibiotic to use for this, it is only effective against anaerobic bacteria, and since this is on the outside of the fish, it would be aerobic. There is also a concern of dosing metroplex with copper - I haven't done that myself for fear of cross reactions (they are both antiprotozoan drugs).

Okay, I only put about a half dose yesterday, but I won’t put anymore. I noticed this morning that the tang now has multiple dark spots now all over. Any ideas?? I’m getting a bit worried about him. So thankful for everyone’s advice thus far!
