Hello everyone,

My saltwater Fowlr tank has been doing good for a few months..added 2 clownfish, 2 golden head gobys and 4 snails. Well this morning one of my clownfish had white mucous on him and swimming crazy along with heavy breathing. I am setting up a new quarantine tank now for him. I plan on doing a freshwater dip and then moving him to the QT tank and treating him with copper... I don't have formalin or anything so copper will have to do.

My question is how am I going to recover my whole DT?? I guess I will have to quarantine all my fish and snails but I really dont want to completely rip apart my tank. Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you want to do it properly, you will need to take all fish out and QT them while leaving the tank fish-less for 6 weeks, (The life cycle of Brook). You can leave the inverts in the tank as they are not affected by Brook. If you really want to be safe you will leave it empty for 76 days to cover yourself from ICH as well.

As far as copper goes for Brook, I am not sure that will help, but hopefully someone else will speak to that. I do know that a 45 minute Formalin Bath is the recommended treatment, however I would still recommend treating with copper as well to cover ICH and Velvet since you have to wait 6 weeks anyway. I would also recommend treating for Flukes as well.

There are people there that are subject matter experts in all things from diagnoses to treatment and prevention. The sticky posts are a great place to start and they are VERY informative.
