Hi , This week I lost 2 clown fish , a yellow tail damsel to what appears to of been Brooklynellois .
My question is now that I only have Inverts in the tank how long should I wait before I add any new fish ?
Thanks

I waited a solid 3 months when I got it in my first tank several years ago. I originally was shooting for the 2 month mark but when time came I thought since I waited this long so why not give it more assurance. I would have kicked myself if returned. I had no problems at all after the 90 days. Healthy tank for many years

6-12 weeks is what worked in the past for me

72-74 days or whatever is what I have been told. Without a host (fish), marine parasites have not been able to live beyond 73 days. This number was taken from ich parasite research if I’m not mistaken but to make sure all parasites are dead, quarantine and treat all fish. All inverts can stay in the DT. After treatment just keep them quarantined and watch them closely for the remaining time that the parasites need to starve to death in the main display. That is exactly what I’m doing right now. Thanks to the help of many R2R members I’m going to have a bunch of very happy healthy fish, in a parasite free tank. Good luck!

So - thats for ich. correct... Not for other parasites:). At least according to the experts here - its 6 weeks.

Yes, the 74 days comes from ich parasites, but everyone I’ve talked to says that should be the standard for all parasites to make sure all species of parasites are dead, just in case there’s anything else in there.

Not really true. That data is only for CI. But if you don’t know what is infecting your tank that’s a good idea. Btw that number that ‘everyone’ quotes is based on one study from the 1990s. That found one strain of CI survives that long. There is nothing to say that it can’t survive longer or that 99% survive for a shorter period

Ok well from now on I will just leave it to the “experts”. Hopefully one day I will be experienced enough to give some friendly advise. Thanks for putting me in my place, I will be more careful in the future about where I ignorantly chime in ;)

Thank you for the information everyone. I also run a UV light and wonder if that will reduce the wait time ? I should say that this is a 32 Bio cube LED with the UV in the rear chamber where the pump is located.
