brown algae (?) during cycle

my cube has been cycling for a little over 2 weeks now. nitrite is beginning to zero out but it's not quite there yet. today i noticed this brown fuzz in a few spots, what i presume to be brown (diatom) algae. this is a good thing, right? (despite it being a nuisance later on)

ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0.50~
nitrate: 10~

what exactly is it? just some diatom algae?

I'd guess a bacteria that found some organics stuck glass.

Diatoms feeel a bit different from bacteria. Diatoms have bones.
