Hello Reefing Community!

I am requesting some assistance in diagnosing and eradicating some annoying brown algae that has coated my rocks, not allowing corals to attach.

I started my red sea 250 in June 2019. I initially started with the 4-5 month no light method to reduce the chance of the ugly stages (BRS method).

All was great until Approx. 3 weeks ago when I moved my rockwork to a more appealing aquascape (Biggest mistake)...

Since then, i have been dealing with brown algae that has coated my rocks not allowing GSP or mushrooms attach themselves. Even glue wont stick.

When i remove the rocks from the water, it has this dead coral odour. I try to manually remove the algae by brushing it off the rocks which causes the water to become murky. The aglea returns a day or so later.

I have been trying weekly water changes after the manual brushing which dont seem to be working..

I am attempting to use Vibrant for a dose of bacteria but i just started last week - no results yet.

If anyone has any idea of which bacteria this may be, please assist me in destroying it for good!!!!! Pictures attached.

I can't see much from the pictures, but from your descriptions sounds like Dinos. What are your nutrients at (N & P)?

Cant see much because the pictures are bad or there isnt much there?

Its not an overwhelming problem... but i hate not being able to place corals on the rocks. lol

Phosphate at 24 PPB + 0.0074 PPM
Nitrate at 10-20PPM

My phosphate was undetectable a few days ago but i took out my GFO seeing if more nutrients would help/hurt the problem. Wasnt sure which algae i was dealing with.

Ohh I meant I don't see anything "bad" in the pictures on the rock. Brown algae on rock is part of reefing, if you get some cleanup crew they will take care of it.

With P at 0, Dinos is deff a concern. I like to run mine at 0.02-0.04 ppm so it's less of an issue on an ongoing basis.
