What is the best way to get rid of this brown algae that always grows on my sand I heard vodka dosing works well for this any advice I have a 58 gallon oceanic with a 20 gallon sump and reef octopus nwb110 skimmer any advice would be great thanks

What are your test results, nitrates , phosphates etc.? most all algae issues are caused by excess nutrients whether that's from overfeeding or phosphates. What lighting are you using and how old are the bulbs?

Nitrates always seem to stay around 5 or 10 ppm mg/l I need to get new phosphate test kit tomorrow to test my phosphates but I have maxspect 160w leds 16k over my tank run around 8 hours and I only feed my fish as much as they will eat in two minutes

Thats just crazy. How long has the tank been set up?
Don't Vodka dose, it doesn't help brown algae.

Now it all falls in line. I thought this was a new tank. If you just leave the stuff alone for a bit, it will eat the silicates out of your tank, then it will be gone.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
