Brown algae

Can anyone tell me what this brown algae like growth is on my rocks? Good or bad? I have been dosing purple up so is it the beginning stages of purple coralline? Thanks in advance!

Tank has been running for about 1 year.

Growing only on rocks.. Not on sand or glass.

It looks pretty coarse.....rub it and see if some easily comes off

It does not come off easy and feels a little slimy.

Hmmm, hard to say. Mine did that for awhile then turned to coralline.

Never used purple up, coralline just appeared one morning for me. 1 year running you should be past the new tank breakouts... change anything? How phosphates? Maybe this purple stuff is feeding this algae...

Wgat are you using to read po4? Most color chart tests can't read low range. Pick up a hanna checker. I had a salifert test kit and I couldn't tell if there was .01-.08.

But regardless I would stop using that purple stuff do some water changes and see if it goes away.
