Brown algae

Whats your source water for changes and top off?

Could be silicates in the water, whats your phosphates at?

An algae scrubber will eventually outcompete all other algae and but make your system ultra low nutrient

I had the exact same issue with brown algae when I started. At first I was using the well water at my home which is 38' deep. Instead of sinking a lot of money into a water purification system, I decided to use well water from another source 5 miles away which is 135' deep and through daily water changes, I noticed a major difference within a week. Brown algae has been completely eliminated for two years now.

I have that problem and I believe it is diatoms from silicate...the meter will show that...saw an $18 one on EBay...mine got worse when I started using RO water from Walmart...it is not DI...going b ack to distilled water until I can afford an RO/DI unit and we'll see...

I had this same issue in one tank but not my other tank, (still have a little) and it may be due to the rock I used in my 90 gallon. Some of the rock I have no clue what it was/is and the other was dry rock I bought cheap 8 years ago and yes I leaned a lesson!
