Brown Algae

I use it for 2 months not the stated 4. But it does more then just running purigen or carbon alone.
I wouldn’t be recommending the OP changes are as long as that for carbon.
What do you mean it does more than carbon and purigen? That is literally all it is, a purigen type resin and carbon.

Guess I would refer you to the chemipure website for clarification....I'm sure you can see what the manufacturer states there.

It’s a resin and carbon what needs clarification?
You might want to read the manufacturer info. It's multiple resins and it does much more then just running purigen by itself.

But the OP can choose his course for what best for his tank. I keep carbon and purigen on stand by because you never know when you might need extra help.

Good luck in the hobby.

What makes you think I haven’t?

Purgien is by far the better option for the OP with separate carbon, changing the carbon after a scrubbing or cleaning of sand, at least twice a week until the OP is on top of the situation.

Thanks to everyone that replied on this thread. Writing this up for others that may read the thread. After months of struggling, the tank is back to normal in just a few days. I did another blackout and water change (which I had done numerous times before), but I think the real fix came from @killer2001 . The suggestion was a UV light, which I blew off at first because I have a UV light. Turns out the bulb had burned out/stopped working. I replaced the unit and I really think it has fixed all the problems. It would also explain how the tank was perfectly clear for well over a year and then all of a sudden started having these problems. Thanks to everyone.
