Was wondering what this brown algea is that has been growing in my frag tank. Looks purplish under blue leds and brown when whites turned up. Not sure if its just diatoms or something else

I don't think that's diatoms. They don't tend to clump or string together. They are very easily dispersed like a powder when disturbed. That looks like hair algae of some sort. What are your nutrient concentrations in the frag tank?

Had to order more ulr reagent but last week i was at 5nitrates and .1 phos. Its a zoa frag tank so i keep nutrients up.

Could it be brown hair algae? With the nutrients up to keep the zoas happy and no grazers in the frag tank (I'm assuming), seems like a good place for hair algae to make an appearance.

I have a scopas tang, trochus, turbo and margarita snails. It sheets onto my eggcrate and frag plugs.

I guess there's really no such thing as brown hair algae (at least that I could find). It really looks like GHA. Are there any conditions where it looks greenish?

Will have to look today since I run all blues. When I would turn whites on looked brown before. Will let you know when im home. It's not causing a problem in my tank was just curious what this random algea could be.

I've always heard about brown hair algae, but from what I read, it's just GHA missing some nutrients so that it appears brown.

You're in a tough spot because the CUC is not eating the GHA and you can't lower nutrients because of the zoas. Could you try something like a sea hare?
Its inbetween the polyps. I just did a 50/50 peroxide dip. Should good now. Haha
