Hello all, This is the first time I am posting. I have a question all these little guys had this brown goo coming out of them this morning when I turned the lights of the tank on. Is this just poop or is it something else?

Thanks :-)

Most likely just waste. Happens frequently. If it is new or you've made a change to lighting it could be expelling Zooxanthellae to regulate but that often isn't damaging either if it's not too drastic.

Are they old or new. If old, likely just poop. If they're new, it's likely that they were in too much light and are releasing excess Zooxanthellae.

I got them maybe a month ago. It was weird that 3 of them were doing it at the same time. I have not changed anything in my tank.

If all three are doing it, my money would be closer to expelling zooxanthellae. They likely were exposed to excess light, which cases the zooxanthellae to rapidly reproduce. The increased photosynthesis from the extra zooxanthellae can produce both oxygen and extra reactive oxygen species which can damage the coral- as a result, it is likely releasing all the extra at once now that it has stabilized and to protect itself from oxidative damage.

It's probably Zooxanthellae. I have a large colony of 100+ that all did it at the same time after I changed my lights.

If nothing has changed, it's likely just waste. Either way they will probably be just fine.

Sometimes reefing sounds so dirty.
