New to hobby have a Nano tank with success and moved to a 75 gallon. New RODI system from BRS. First time making my own saltwater. Mixed 55 gallons of Instant ocean reef crystals with wave maker for 48 hours. The unit and cord has a brownish film on it. Any ideas what it is and is it safe. Thanks for any reply!

I haven't personally used reef crystals but have heard that brand has a residue associated with it so I stayed away from it. I use the regular Red Sea in the blue bucket and never had any residue left behind in the mixing bucket or show up in my tank.

The residue is normal for instant ocean salt and I’ve never had a problem in my tank as a result.
