Hey guys, [emoji16]

So I have this brown film on my sand and I can’t get rid of it. I don’t know if it’s Dino or cyano. It goes away lights out and then comes back with my lights on. I tried going lights out for 3 days and do water changes but it still came back. Is there any fish you recommend to clean my sand bed ? Like a goby or something ? I have a starfish but it’s not enough. I don’t know what this is. Interested in your thoughts !

Thanks! [emoji226][emoji225]

How old is your tank? It sounds like diatoms. Get some cerith snails, nassarius snails, and maybe even a fighting conch (they’re peaceful, I swear haha) or a strawberry conch. It’ll clear up quickly. However you should target the source. Do you use RODI water and have you added any new rock or sand lately?

Nope no new rock or anything. I think your right it is diatoms it’s such a pain. My LFS doesn’t have conch do you know a good place to get them ? And I do use rodi water

+1 with above diatoms feed on silicates in the water and if the tank is new probably clear up on its own

My tank is 3 years old. Idk why I’m getting this stuff. I’m going to by some conch and snails on live aquaria. Is there anything else besides cleanup crew that can take care of this?

I'm assuming you use ro/Di and if your tap water is high in silicates they do make a carbon block for hi silicate. My cerith snails like diatoms

You can try getting better flow over the sand but if it’s the super fine stuff and not heavier things like crushed coral it will just blow everywhere. Other than that, your best bet is sand sifting inverts like the ones I listed.

Do you have a large enough CUC? My take is new and have this problem, I added or invested in a very large one and it really clean up the tank. I gave it a 72 hour black period out to allow them to get caught up with all of the algae. GL!!
