So i have lost a few frags due to a brown film like thing on my zoas, i always thought it was diatoms or something but i have no idea what it really is...
right now about 5 frags of my zoas have this brown stuff on them, and they dont open anymore...

can i do anything to help these guys?

thanks

I thought I read somewhere that diatoms irritate zoas and make them close.

You could try gently wiping the film off a frag to see if it helps.

If you have diatoms check you silicates. I had a serious issue with diatoms last winter and all of my zoas were closing up and withering away. I tested for silicates and they were about 3-5 ppm. I started using phos/silicate remover after about 2 weeks they started to open back up and the diatoms were completely gone.....

when I get that slime growth over my zoos...I use an baby eye dropper and swish them with water and it comes right off.
