Some background. about 8 weeks ago, started to convert my tank over to a zeovit tank...was given a bunch of zeo products, figured I'd try it out for a few months and see what happens.

About 2-3 weeks ago, I noticed this "fuzz" growing on my rocks. Looked a lot like what happened after my tank was setup and started dosing NOPOX. So I think it's in relation to carbon dosing....My skimmate yesterday was dark, almost coffee dark, so I was told to have my skimmer skim a little more wet.

So this fuzz, it's like peachfuzz. It's not dino's as it's not snotty, bubbly. if I dip a tooth brush in peroxide, and touch the rock the fuzz literally melts away.

It's unsightly but doesn't appear to be hurting anything...question is, will it go away on it's own?

My test results yesterday using Red Sea kits, a digital refractometer, and alkalinity meter were as follows:

pH 8.33
Salinity: 35ppt or 1.026
Temp 77.9
NO3: 1ppm
PO4: 0.01ppm
Alkalinity: 8.1
Calcium: 490
Magnesium: 1390

I was using reef crystals, so the magnesium and calcium are elevated. Have done about 6 12 gallon water changes with regular red sea salt, and figure it's just a matter of time before they come down to the salt mix levels.

Will try. Hard to get a good picture with my iphone

I am pretty sure it's just a bacteria bloom from carbon dosing. According to BRS and Marine Depot, this is common in new zeovit tanks (under 9 months) and should go away on its own. Both places said god no when I said, do I dose with peroxide to clear it up? [emoji41]
