I noticed a weird looking object on my live sand and also I'm getting like brown fur covering my rocks, not exactly sure what to do about it or will it just go away on its own with water changes . I checked all my parameters they seem reasonable. My tank finished cycling about a month ago so I'm not sure if it has something to do with that. The tank is using all dry rock with live sand, also I'm using a brs Rodi system for my water. The tank is 55 gallons and has 1 dendro coral, a clove polyp and 1 royal gramma. Ammonia 0,nitrite 0, nitrate <5ppm, ph 8.1 salinity 1.024

OK sounds good do you think now would be a good time to add a clean up crew maybe 3 turbo snails

I've never been a fan of turbo snails - especially big ones since they just knock everything over. I like the trochus and nassarius snails. The trochus are wonderful algea eaters that can right themselves if they accidentally flip over. The nassarius snails are great sand sifters and eat left over fish food that settles to the bottom of the tank.

But yes, time to go ahead and add a small clean up crew to the tank - don't add too much yet as you don't want to starve them. Buy yourself a half dozen snails and start with that. Or if you prefer crabs you can go that route - most people will pick either snails or hermits since hermits often will eat a snail if it wants it's shell (depending upon what kind of hermit crab, the aggression may or may not exist).

OK thanks for the advice, I will definitely be doing that 1st thing in the morning.

There are many stages that a new saltwater tank will go through and unfortunately some of them come with algea like this.
