Brown Gooey Stuff Coming From New Coral

I just got my first coral for my tank and I am new to coral. It’s a candy cane coral and I got it from my local fish store just a few days ago. Earlier today, I looked over at my tank and noticed this brown, gooey substance coming out of the coral and can’t figure out what it is. The actual base of the coral doesn’t look very healthy either. I tested my water and everything is up to par. Any ideas??

Almost all of my euphyllia have done that also. They’re pooping basically but it’s totally normal. Mine shrink into no existence when they are about to do that as well as after. Within a day they should bounce back completely.

Theres actually a thread around here about the biggest coral poops. That one would make a nice notable mention.

I had zoas doing it last week and got worried. Turns out they were just pooping!

I think poop is more like clumps. I have a candy cane and its poop doesn’t look like that. I think that stringy stuff is more likely excess Zooxanthellae it is expelling as it adjusts to higher light levels. My zoas did that the first week only, then were fine.

If you just got the coral it could be expelling zooxanthellae to adjust to your lighting.
It may have come from a tank with lower light in which it may have increase it zooxanthellae. I would lower the coral some or raise the lights. If it is led turn them down some till the coral acclimates. If it keeps up the coral can bleach.
