Brown hair algae?

I have some hair algae on the glass it looks like diatoms except its hairy I have had a diatom outbreak. I checked my nitrates and phosphates. Phosphates are 0. My nitrates were 20. A week ago they were zero. I did notice my skimmer wasn't skimming. It is now though.
I don't have any pictures cause it is so hard to see except for the brown. Can't see the hair really. Any suggestions? It's seems to only be on the glass.

Have you checked phosphate level? If you have hair algae it is caused by excess nutrients. You need to have your test results double checked with another test kit or maybe your lfs can test for you.

Yeah I will do that.

Could also mean excessive nutrients in the water column. Won't show up on tests. Clean substrate and water changes could help.
