Hello
This brownish hair algae does not look like the typical green slime hair algae people usually get. I'm wondering if there's a way to i.d. It and hopefully get rid of it. It does not take over like I've seen in cases with people who have been dealing with green hair algae but it has been in my tank for a while. It's on my gyre as well. I've also seen this type of algae at one of my LFS.
I feed algae on a clip in the morning and LRS in the afternoon but everything gets eaten quick. So I know I'm not over feeding . It's easily removal by hand but it grows back on the same spot. Any
Suggestions?
Protein skimmer
Algae scrubber
CO2 scrubber
Nopox on dosing pump 5 ml daily
Alk and ca 2 part on dosing pump 1 ml daily
My parameters are
Alk 7.8
Mag 1340
Ca 380
Nitrate 5
Po4 0.01 barely
Ph 8-8.2
75 gallon tank
6 chromis
1 flame hawk
1 mallanarus wrasse
1 pj cardinal
2 bangai cardinals
1 small yellow tang
2 clowns
1 sleeper yellow head goby

It's very difficult to tell without getting it under a microscope, but it does look a lot like the green cyanobacteria that I struggled with for months. Went through all the usual methods for removal before finally going nuclear and using Chemiclean. Cleared it out completely and hasn't returned. If you decide to go this route, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS TO THE LETTER.

Hello
How did you go about using the chemiclean?
I have some free samples that we're giving to me at reefapalooza last year
I even did a 3 day black out .

you can try using a syringe and hitting it with some H2O2. turn pumps off so no flow try to give it the most contact time possible, maybe try and cover the area with a cup or something. I know algae and cyano don't like the stuff.

Just to be sure there are no issues, go ahead and spring for a new box of the stuff. I think the dose is 1 scoop per 10 gallons of water volume. Add a wooden airstone for oxygenation and leave your skimmer on, but without the collection cup. It WILL overflow for a few days. Remove all chemical media such as carbon. After 3 days do a 20% water change. It will be gone if it's what I was dealing with.

Ok
Thanks
But I've never heard of H2O2. What is it?

Ok
I do have a CO2 scrubber running which should help with oxygen and an algae scrubber. Aside from the carbon reactor should I shut those off as well?

I don't have any experience with CO2 scrubbers or algae scrubbers, so I can't offer any advice on that. Make sure you use an airstone or two to oxegenate and don't deviate from the instructions. You could probably call or email the manufacturer and ask about the scrubbers.

On
Thank you!!!
