Hi guys and gals.

I have had my tank running for around 3 months now but I have a very invasive algae issue which I think is brown hair algae.

What is the best form of defence and attack for it? For clean up crew I have 7x blhc and 3x trochus snails and one orange lipped conch. I have a small hippo tang as well that may nip at it every now again but doesn’t make a dent.

it’s a reefer 250 which I started with dry Marco rock and live sand.

I was going to add vibrant to see what it would do but I have a frag if GSP and it says fish only systems I believe.

Thanks

Too early to start any battles, especially with chemicals.

All new tanks must go thru the UGLY stage, till they MATURE. Especially if you started with Dry Rock.
That's the process of how the DEAD DRY rock, eventually becomes LIVE ROCK.

This is the first test of owing a Tank. Called patience.

If you can't bear to watch algae on rock and want a cleaner look you can take out the rocks, scrub and rinse and put back.
Algae will come back, but less and less each time.

Eventually you will see nice purple/pink coraline covering rocks. Make sure you get even a tiny rock covered in Coraline from a STore or Friend to seed the tank with Coraline Alage.

Trust me, I hate the Ugly stages. Algae is one. Cyano is another.
It's tough to wait it out. LIttle maintenance helps keep your sanity and pride.
