Hello. So I'm getting this brown long algae that never seems to go away no matter how much I do water changes or clean it off. Brand New Rodi with two DI filters so I'm not using tap water just ran skimmer line outside to raise pH currently at 7.7-7.8. Ammonia .25, nitrite is 0, Nitrate is between 1-5 and phosphate is maybe .25 max. Two questions what can I do to get rid of this stuff and keep my pH higher. I plan on getting Neptune apex in the future. Tank is Red Sea 350 bare bottom tank. Hopefully you can see it. I've been doing 10percent water changes once a week. Thank you in advance.

Are you sure it’s not some form of diatoms?

I have a problem with green hair algae and just put this in my tank. Several fellow reefers recommended it.

What ever it is comes off very easily and grows really fast. Can't really do lights out due to some small frags.

How often are you doing water changes?

Once a week at 10percent. I've tried twice a week no prevail. I may have to turn protein skimmer off and let get dirty. Tanks been up 8 months. Ran skimmer hose outside to help with fresh air

How old is the tank. Phosphate is elevated which can promote GHA. What is your cleaner crew?

GHA is normal in an 8 month tank. Cut lights to 6 hours blue and uv only no whites. Get diverse cleaner crew including couple tuxedo urchins. Raise magnesium to 1500. Daily manual removal. Weekly water changes.

I just turned the white off yesterday. I have blue legged hermit crab big snails and some turbos I belive. Iurchin in my sump kept knocking frags over, I'll bring him back up. I change my sock daily

My tank is the XL300 so slightly smaller. I probably have 40 snails different types, 20 scarlet hermits, 3 urchins, 2 pitho crabs and no real algae issues. All tanks need some algae in them for grazers and to balance the biome. I have a fuge also with chaeto that grows like a weed.

Its really long and stringy like was 8+ inches. I took rock over from my small 30 gallon. That had green algae that clean up crew destroyed it all. I have a scrubber in the sump works great with green algae also get some of brown mixed in. I'd rather have green algae at this point. I will do a refugium once I take care of this problem.

I had a GHA jungle for 3 months maybe 4 and just stayed the course with no harsh chemicals. Just the cleaners and me. Then it was gone and coralline replaced it everywhere.
