Brown Jelly Disease!!!

Seems like i have brown jelly disease. it has killed several of my priced euphyllia and i suspect it came from a hammer that i obtained 1 month ago.

Anyways, can someone chime in what they use to combat it? I have read somewhere that iodine is good for treating but some say it's bad. So what's the real story?

I have SeaChem dip, Revive, CoralRX, and Bayer insectide. I'm planning to get some iodine today just not sure what brand. Any link to the product is appreciated. I heard Lugol is good but are we talking about the one with 2% iodine?

I have also read that dosing Vitamin C and also good. Anyone done so? can you include the link as well?

This is a bacterial infection and Primer is designed to combat the issue.

I treated with antibiotics as Reefwiser said. Soaked corals for 4-6 hours in a separate tank with antibiotic dosed in the water. Helped save a few of mine.

I have not used Primer, but used a gram negative antibiotic. Trying to remember which. Could have been eurythromycin or neomycin.

Are there any case stories or reviews on reef primer, none of the major retailers seem to carry the stuff? Their site doesn't specifically mention brown jelly, but it does list other specific issues.

I hate to be pessimistic but I would isolate any coral that show signs of the BJD, you can try dipping them but be prepared for it to not do anything. It wiped my collection of acans out in less than a week

i plan on doing that. but need to slow or stop the tissue loss first. I

+1 to what @Shep said, I wouldn't rely on any dip when dealing with BJD. You don't need to slow or stop the tissue loss first, you need to quarantine it first, then make an attempt at treatment. BJD is nasty stuff, the longer the other corals are exposed to it, the more likely they're to get it. Saving one from BJD would be a feat, saving many would be dang near impossible.

As I said in my above post, which I will explain further for you. I set up an entire new system 10g with HOB filter and water from main system and bio from main system. Then, I removed the corals (most my lps at the time) and rinsed them well to remove any of the dead tissue and bjd gunk. then placed them in the new system. I dosed with the appropriate antibiotics. I used the gram negative and dosed the same as for fish. I let them be in there with the flow of the hob (no carbon) for 6 hours. Then I rinsed again.

Some I put back into the system, others were moved to a new system for lps only. I was able to save some. Mostly the ones in the new system away from all other corals. Still have at least one from that episode three years ago.

The others that dies were not by bjd. Those came back and died later from gorgs.

can you confirm what antibiotics you used?

eurythromycin or neomycin. Trying to remember the brand. One was special order (neomycin) the eurythromycin is in a fish med. Maracyn.
