Brown jelly disease?

What's up everyone. I went in and reaquascaped my euphylia garden. When removing the glued frags I noticed some polyps from the frogspawn ripped off. Not only that, when I syphoned my barebottom I accidentally sucked the polyp off from another frogspawn. I am a bit worried about brown jelly disease. What do you guys think?

Nope. Just wondering how common is it if you slightly damage the coral

Got it.
It's a specific microorganisim so I don't belive it comes out of a healthy coral . I have had some die and get brown nasties but I think that was dying coral ooze. So I suspect it's often mis diagnosed.

I have a few pretty reputable friends say it came in and took out the entire stock of lps in the frag tank.
Many report that BJD just took out one of thier colony, and the others were fine.

Dealing with this currently. Massive rapid die off that spreads to nearby coral

. There is no mistaking it!

I be done that before while cleaning my sand bed , the tentacles of my torches got sucked up and I was terrified, they closed up for a few hours and opened right back up , the flesh eventually grew back I didn't loose any of them

I would agree with everyone here. I would rule out bjd and say it got damaged when you rearranged it or maybe Polyp Bailout. But i would rule it just got damaged.

Have you looked at reef safe antibiotics? Are you treating?

Picking up ABX today. I got lucky, fragged and saved coral. I have a very large ORA purple stylo that too the brunt of the hit. I think the spread is over. This disease rapidly spread from coral to coral!

Whats ABX?
Honestly true BJD appears pretty rare on the forums.

ABX is antibiotics. Thankfully rare. This disease rapidly spread from a mushroom coral to my stylo then to a nearby acro, then again from that acro to a stag. I was able to cut out infected areas and save all but the mushrooms. The spread was so fast you could almost see it. I was fortunate, doing maintanace and saw it.

No idea. Was just going to go to LFS and see what is available.

My LFS recommends erythromycin.

Also there is a thread somewhere on the site of someone doing some work trying to identify a specific pathogen and testing with ABX.

I think they were looking at Azithromycin - another macrolide similar to erythromycin.

Awesome! Thank you. I was hoping for Erythromycin.

Interestingly enough, the spread of infection has ceased. I cut above the infection as best I could and there is no new exposed or dying tissue.

This thing wreaked havoc though on any nearby coral

Welp! I spoke too soon! The infection continues on! I just ordered API EM Erythromycin. I'll post results. Hopefully I haven't waited too long! :mad:
