Hi everyone, i had a hammer coral frag fighting for his life for a while but sadly died because of brown jelly disease, still unsure what caused it. I want to know how fast and far can this jelly disease spread because i have several other euphylias that are triving, they were maybe 16 inches away from the frag that died and as soon as i noticed i took him out of the tank. It will really mess me up if any other euphylia die because they are doing great and i have them for a while, ive read a lot about this but all i can find talk about colonies and this was a separate frag. Also when i took it out the little brown jelly that floated away my clownfish ate it so i hope they dont get sick for being pigs. Thanks in advance

From my understanding (and please correct me if I’m wrong), BJD is spread when the jelly comes in contact with other LPS. So when talking about colonies, sometimes you can frag off the affected heads and the colony will survive without BJD. If it’s an individual frag, it should be fine as long as it was siphoned out (or eaten in your case lol). But I’d imagine you will be fine!

Thats good news because i dont think a lot of it floated away, the frag was small and the fish went at it pretty quick. Thanks

In case you have it spread, look up my post history. I found a cure as a last ditch effort. Also check your ph, if it dips too low at night bjd will spread like wildfire.

As long as you got it out you should be fine. I also dealt with bjd on one of my torches. I cut off the infected head and disposed of it and dipped the rest in diluted peroxide. I don’t know if peroxide helped or just remaining heads were just simply unaffected but torch survived the whole ordeal. There was some “jelly” that floated away from torch and into system but it didn’t affect anything.
Hope all turns well for you.
