Just got home and see this

My worry is that it will spread to my frog spawn. I dipped the Duncan

Is it contagious? Or will it stay on the Duncan?

Looks like I lost one head. I used iodine for the dip.

thanks for the little ray of hope

Is it actually brown jelly? Just looked like the descriptions I’ve seen/read.

Looks like BJD. yes it can spread, so dipping will help. It may take some time to recover. Lower you light intensity for a little while till it recovers.

Ha ha, my corals are dying and you’re making jokes!! :p

Do you have access to a microscope? This is what brown jelly ciliates look like under magnification:

If you can, remove the frag from your tank and cut off the infected areas. Do not blow the jelly off inside the tank as that will spread it to other corals. Dipping the corals did not kill the ciliates in my experience.

After trimming off damaged corals, plan to do a couple large-ish water changes. I did three 25% changes spread over three days.

I made the mistake of using a turkey baster to blow the jelly off inside the tank. I ended up losing about 20% of all my corals as it spread.

Good thing you’re catching it early. Keep us posted. Good luck!

Don’t have a very good microscope.
As soon as I noticed it I instantly started searching for iodine dip on R2R. Found it fast! Thank you for having a great search function for our site.

Then carefully removed the Duncan, didn’t want the jelly to dislodge in the tank. Soon as the coral hit the dip, most of jelly came right off. Used a turkey Baster to wash the rest. Then rinse in tank water with a few drops of peroxide.

The stressors might of been the Frogspawn stinging the Duncan. 6in away from each other. The other stressor, had a small fish die on me. Hermit was eating the fish, not much was left. Hadn’t seen the fish in the last 2 days.
Always learning new things, keeps me interested in this hobby.
Thank you everyone for your input.

It looked ok for a couple days. Yesterday I dipped again because jelly came back and moved to main head. I moved it to a sort of hospital tank after dip and rinse.
Today it’s looking like yesterday. I’ll give it one more chance and dip it again.
probably a goner.

All good webslinger, ur joke did make me smile. :)
