Brown Needle-like thing on Monti

Anybody know what this is? Might be hard to tell from the pic but it's a brown needle-like type of algae maybe?

I just removed it with tweezers and it was hard and sharp. There's a brown spot now where that thing was. Hope my monti will recover from it

If anybody can give me a ID on what type of algae/pest that is that'll be great and if there's anything I can do to prevent it from happening again

Do you have a larger image of that frag? Right now I can only see a 2"x1.5" picture that I can't zoom in on/click. When I zoom in on my webpage too much, I lose resolution. If you have an original version that's larger and was resized/compressed, you can always host it on imgur or another platform and post the link here.

Looks like a small vermetid but a better picture will be needed to confirm.
