Brown on glass and powerheads

I'm guessing this is brown algae? How does this come up in my tank and how do I get rid of it? What do I do to prevent it, looks nasty in the tank, wish it was purple

It's just on the glass, powerheads and filters!! Not the sand bed or rocks.

Probably diatoms, a cleanup crew should help. Turbo snails, cerith snails, pretty much any snail, hermit crabs, tuxedo urchin, and lots of other cool inverts can help clean it all ip

Wow! So not true! Very few Snails actually eat Diatoms. A Tuxedo Urchin will eat Coralline Algae and Green Algae way before Diatoms and maybe not even then. Turbo Snails do not eat Diatoms. The Red Legged Hermits (Scarlet Legged Hermits) only are best for Diatoms
Cerith and Nerite Snails are the best known Diatoms eaters.
Please research before handing out advise like this.

How do crabs climb on the glass and get on the powerheads and clean the glass also? Don't understand. All my snails I have ever bought are special. They climb and fall and can't get back up and get eaten. I do have baby nerites and they just burry under the sand and when they smell food they come up for a few minutes and head back down underground.

That stuff is pretty common I think. Is your tank in the sun? What's your lighting schedule like? I get the same stuff, and I just use a mag float on the glass, and turkey baste the power heads when it builds up. I also deep clean them every month. Seems to work pretty well.

Tank look new. It will go away as the silicates are used up. Just be patient is all.
Not necessary to add critters for it.

1 Mexican turbo snail per gallon. I never have 2 clean glass.
