Brown/orange precipitate or dinos/bacteria?

Hi I've been seeing this stuff pop up as my tank gets established, but it's not on the sandbed at all. Someone mentioned In an earlier post that it's probably precipitate. I'm not well versed in the bacterias but this doesn't seem like bacteria to me? It's solid and I can't rub/blow it off with a baster, but it looks like it has a fuzzy texture but I'm scared to touch it. Any ideas?

You need to take clear pics under white light and provide tank parameters and age.

less important than what it is exactly, is understanding that various photosynthetic things green, red, brown, pink, purple - will colonize such bare surfaces as the tank matures.


surfaces look very new with plenty of colonizing to go.

Appears to be diatoms. Should blow loose with a turkey baster but not of concern. Reduce white lights a little which look bright and promotes this stuff.
Your nitrate and phosphate are also elevated.

I agree with vetteguy. Appears to be normal start of the ugly phases. Keep up weekly water changes to help balance elevated parameters. You're going to be dealing with various ugly phases throughout the first year.

I went and bought 4 astrea snails (20g) hoping they'll curb the dinos and inevitable algae bloom haha

Dinos go away on their own in a few weeks. The other algaes will be more of a battle in the first year.

They eat algae but you are better off with trochus snails which look like astreas but little bigger. They can self right themselves if they fall on their side. Astrea can't and will die if not aided.
