I think it's a type of bacteria( there are a lot of differing types) . This stuff likes low nutrients . What are Your Po4/No3 levels? .
This is how it was explained to me.
Nitrates nitrites are zeroFrom that image it looks like it could be Dinoflagellates, but there are a few tests to figure out for sure. The "coffee filter" test and look under a microscope (a cheap toy one is good enough). Does it appear to go away/diminish after lights out only to slime right back up when the lights come back on?
What are your parameters? Particularly Nitrates and Phosphates.
