Hello, I have just noticed this brown spot on my clown Tang. There is also a string hanging off by tail fin on the same side. Any ideas?

The "Hanging Thread" appears to be possibly some kind of ectoparasite that has latched onto the side of the fish.

I'm not certain what brown spot you are referring to? The fishes body behind the head has a weird indentation, maybe a camera angel trick or the fish is deformed, possibly malnourished?

How long have you had this fish?

This brown spot right there in the middle of his body. I've had this fish 5 months. He is doing well besides the issues stated. Eating, swimming, acting normally.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

The hanging thread may be a bit of mucus feces, or some other random filament stuck under the scalpel of the tang, we see that fairly often here. You should be able to tell in person if it starts at the spine (tough to see for sure in the photo).
The spot on its side is likely a bruise. It isn’t a symptom of any of the major parasites. Just watch it so that it doesn’t spread.

Thanks Jay. It is tough to see in person where filament actually starts in person as well but it does appear to be close to the spine. I will be keeping a close eye on him. Thanks again!
