Apologies, it’s the feint brown shadow on the top of the dorsal fin - darker in person.

That’s what I was thinking - no change In behavior - still the stud of the tank

maybe he brushed against my rainbow nem?

Well the “brown spot” went away on its own with no ill affects and within a couple days. Complete mystery but happy outcome.
