Noticed brown spots on both sides of my yellow tang. He’s in the display tank (Peninsula 650) and hasn’t yet spread to other fish. He seems to be eating fine and no erratic behavior. Water change a few days ago but no other fish/corals added or changes to the tank.

Unfortunately haven’t set up the QT tank yet. I don’t have a filter for it but could get water in it, heater and powerhead... no meds stocked

Other Fish:
Blue Tang, Naso, Blotched Anthias, Magnificent Foxface, 2 Black Storm Clownfish, 2 Cardinals, 4 Chromis, Mandarin...

Sorry to hear about your tang. When was he added? When was the last addition to your tank? how long have you noticed the spots?

It looks like a bacterial infection. Furan-2, Metroplex, and Kanaplex, in a QT are probably the best route at this point. You may be able to find the meds LFS or find on amazon.

One of the original fish and has been in the tank for months... no new fish in 4-6 weeks. Foxface was the last addition besides a couple corals...

As mentioned, it looks bacterial to me. I would set up QT and run the meds listed above in the water column or you can first start with feeding by adding once scoop of each + focus which binds it to the frozen fish food. See how it goes and then if it doesn't clear up put in QT.

Thanks! Will order meds tonight and try to get him moved into quarantine.
Recommendations on things needed for QT? I have a 75g tank, heater and power head.

HOB Filter
3 bottles of BIOSPIRA
Ammonia alert badge
have plenty of backup saltwater made for LG water changes
Thermometer
PVC piping for hiding places

Also add Vitamins ( selcon to food as well as garlic extract)

Thank you! How long do you suggest running the QT before making the transfer? will use a bottle of Biospira to once full to speed up the process.

Can a bacterial infection like this spread to other fish? Any suggestions on how to “catch” the yellow tang?
