Hey all! I have a powder brown tang that has ich and is slowly recovering. I noticed today that his skin his peeling as if he had dry skin or a sun burn and the dead skin is coming off. Is that just what it is, dead skin from the ich coming off? Or is it more? Thanks!

Can you explain what you mean by recovering? Is he in treatment? It looks like either velvet or brook to me but I'm not great with brook ID. Aside from the skin peeling are you noticing any other symptoms such as swimming into a powerhead, hiding, heavy breathing? If he's not in a QT it would be advised you get him into one asap if it's either velvet or brook. I'll call in some more help for you.

Sorry I should elaborate. He was being treated for ich and slowly recovered from it. I did hypo for him and he went back into the DT a couple days ago. I woke up to him with skin peeling. It was also suggested to me that it could be his slime coat from stress.

I don't know if it's velvet. He is swimming into the powerhead a lot but not hiding.
 
That's velvet sweetie. I'm very sorry. Hypo doesn't cure velvet. He and all his tankmates will need to come out for treatment with copper or CP. Leave the display fishless (fallow) for 6 weeks to 76 days (the latter being the safest route) Velvet (Amyloodinium ocellatum)

OP it might make it easier if you stick with one thread and give us any and all information you have. That will help our folks diagnose your fish faster than jumping threads.

It still looks like velvet, however it's very possible that brook is an issue as well here. Read that link I posted. You'll be able to treat for both with the protocol outlined there.

It does look sorta "brook like". I wonder if hypo suppressed symptoms?

In any case, brook or velvet, FW dip + chemical bath + 30 days in CP or copper is what you want. Maybe with the following two tweaks:
  1. If possible, use formalin instead of acriflavine for the chemical bath. However, still use acriflavine if formalin cannot be obtained.
  2. If treating with copper in the QT, dose metronidazole (every 48 hrs) in conjunction for the first 10 days. Both Seachem Metroplex or Fishvet Metro-MS contain metronidazole.

X2, this is why I avoid hypo. There are even hypo resistant strains of ich, and fewer people yet properly administer hypo at the "therapeutic" range for the full 30 days to be effective because of evaporation and other factors.

Unfortunately, much of what people think is "a bad case of ich" is actually velvet, which is far more serious.

I also think I see HLLE on this fish.
 
Yeah now I'm convinced your fish has velvet (judging by visible spots and eyes), brook (pealing, etc), and HLLE perhaps.

During humble's treatment I would soak foods in selcon or zoecon (or both) to improve nutrition.

So looks like it was velvet and he didn't survive the night before I was able to get his treatment started. I got my other fish in QT now, and started copper. My regal isn't looking too hot, but fingers crossed he makes it. He's my favourite little guy! But a couple of questions, can I put a filter in there with no carbon? And is my six line wrasse okay to be treated too? I've been looking online to see if he would be, but no definitive answers.

Yes to both questions; any fish that shared water with the PBT needs to be treated for velvet. The DT itself should be left fallow for 6 weeks.
