I have tried with acros and have done a lot in my tank to see if that is there are issues with it. Some acros seem to be fine and others seem to just bite the dust. I put them up high and as soon as I don’t see poly extensions, the brown tips come out. I’ve read it can be too much light or can be high phosphates. As you can see it isn’t out of the norm. I use gfo, I have my refugium lights on 24/7, and I add tropical marin actif to the tank weekly. I do water changes 1 time a month, changed my bulbs last month. What would be an idea to try to make the acros do good and survive!!

Neither of those graphs look particularly stable... work on stabilizing alkalinity first, then worry about stabilizing nutrients.

A small swing in dkh in a months period isn’t bad and the phosphate are not that bad. I just tested and got .09 on phosphates and 8.2 dkh. So, .3 of a swing over 2 days isn’t bad or out of the norm, and .03 on phosphates isn’t that bad. Still a little high but not that bad. What are your suggestions to try and stabilize it?

Brown sps comes from stress/starving. You need to be feeding a lot and keep your alk below 8 if you are going to use gfo. I didn’t have any success trying to drop po4 with gfo. In fact I didn’t have success until I stopped trying to keep in the recommended 0.02-0.05 range. I try to keep them 0.15 because I like to keep my alk 8.5-9.0. Turn off the gfo and put your Hanna ultra low away for a week or 2 feed your fish a couple times a day. I bet they perk up.

Have a been able to check your par?

My alk swing from 8.3-9.3 every day.

I use a 6 bulb t5 aquatic life on my tank. Par i doubt is the issue. So turn off the gfo and feed more? Won’t that make the po4 go up?

Maybe, but that won’t kill your acros. Stripping your water will. If you need to mentally keep your po4 at a certain number, aim for 0.15, not 0.05. Check out my threads. I have a 50 gallon cube with chaeto and a skimmer that only runs for 12 hours while the lights are OFF. I feed a half sheet of nori twice a day, a 1” square of rods foods, a cap of zooplankton, 3 mls of amino acids, and 3 mls of acropower when I get home and 2 cubes of mysis around 10:30 pm. My no3/po4 runs 10-25/0.15-0.20. I have zero algae besides a little brown film on the glass.

My po4 usually runs consistent to .15 +/-. dKH swings from 8.2 to 9.2 daily on the current tank (manual dosing) All acros are showing healthy and growing. Once I had .36 po4 and stripped it to less than .03 in a 24 hour period (bad move) 2 acros Rtn'd immediately. Since I stopped really chasing, things have turned out pretty good. Adam this is my 29 biocube
