So a few weeks ago I noticed this frag (is it an acro?) had this brown/black color on the skin.
In short, I had a 9dkh to 6dkh drop (long story) and this frag had STN. The photo has it closed up when I grabbed and moved it, but it has lots of polyps normally that are extended and has been slowlyyyy recovering, but I spotted this today.

What is this? Is it just the dead flesh from the STN rotting away, or could it be anything else? Should I remove it and put in my coral QT, or leave it alone? It is not slime or anything...

Any advice?

If it does not look like a semi transparent mass than it's probably not Brown Jelly Disease. If tissue was lost to that area then it could be the growth of algae on the skeleton of the coral. I would give the coral a good swish in a dip, not a bath but just a dip and then place it in an area of better flow. If your uncomfortable with dipping the coral than a swirl in some display water and placement in an area with better flow.
It is an Acropora.

Does this one require a ton of light, or mid grade? I have been giving her a middleground half way up with my Red planet near the top.

I am still learning the differing requirements of SPS.

It's a generalization, but once Acropora are acclimated to your lighting higher levels in the tank are better placement. The piece is too small for any definitive ID rather then just Acropora. I would move it up half way.
How is the Red Planet doing now?

Much better. No signs of bleaching at all. It has turned from totally green to green /w a tint of red. Its only been just over a week, so with time I think it should progress.

I also have another unknown Acro that has been brown for 6 months (probably due to the brand new tank and alk fluctuations etc) and in the last month it is turning yellow/light green. I am happy to see its not just a brown turd LOL. Again with time I am hoping it will be a diamond in the rough.
